Czech Market celebrates the holidays in DC

The event included live musical performances featuring Czech Christmas carols.

WASHINGTON — We're helping you get uplifted and get in the holiday spirit a little early.

On Sunday, the embassy of the Czech Republic held their annual Czech Christmas Market — kicking off D.C.’s Christmas celebrations.

The event is also a way to introduce Czech culture to the U.S., with handcrafted ornaments, jewelry, art and many many sweets.

The event also had live musical performances featuring Czech Christmas carols.

Miloslav Stašek, ambassador of the Czech Republic, talked to WUSA9 about the importance of this annual event.

"One of our main tasks is to promote the Czech culture, Czech music, etcetera, and the Czech tradition as well," Stašek said. "This is one of the biggest events we are having."

Some 9,000 people were expected to attend Sunday’s festivities.
