WASHINGTON — We are getting uplifted courtesy of a special partnership that pairs soccer clubs with people who are incarcerated. Let's call it winning by twinning.
For the past eight weeks, The Twinning Project features soccer coaches spending time at the DC Jail, teaching the game of soccer to incarcerated people. The goal was to boost physical and mental well-being and enhance life skills like teamwork, discipline and good decision making.
The first group of graduates were honored on Thursday. Roger Jones says the skills he learned on the pitch will serve him well.
"Life comes at you fast. Out there, when you're in the real world, when you're out in the community, things happen and you have to think fast a lot of times. Being able to make a good decision in those critical times is very important," he said.
DC United will be back at the jail soon to launch the next eight-week course.
