Commanders recognize cancer survivors during halftime | Get Uplifted

GREATER LANDOVER, Md. — The Washington Commanders are celebrating cancer survivors.

Sunday was the Commanders' Crucial Catch game. It's a yearly partnership between the NFL and the American Cancer Society. The purpose is to intercept cancer by promoting prevention and early detection.

During halftime, the team recognized several cancer survivors. Among them was “Mama Commander” Sylvia Harris. She's the mother of the Commanders' owner Josh Harris. Harris was diagnosed with breast cancer last December. She is undergoing treatment and is expected to recover.

The team also honored former Commanders linebacker London Fletcher with one of Sunday's game balls. Fletcher's wife passed away from cancer earlier this year at the age of 50.

The Commanders went on to win Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns by a final score of 34-13.
