ALEXANDRIA, Va. — We are getting uplifted and inspired by a loving family who recently made a stop in the DMV to raise awareness and money for those living with facial differences.
The Hough family has made it their mission to run a 5K in all 50 states in an initiative they are calling, "Miles for Smiles: Run 50 Strong!"
Jeremy and Kelly, along with their teenaged daughters Campbell and Caroline, are Smile Train, the world's largest cleft lip and palate nonprofit. Their own daughter, Campbell, was born with a cleft and now the family is dedicated to highlighting the challenges faced by those in the cleft community, making sure every child has access to the care they need.
They recently made a stop in Alexandria's Mount Vernon Trail and the Jefferson Memorial.
They are doing it to raise awareness and money for the cleft community, to connect with families affected by clefts and support Smile Train. They started in Alaska and will end in Maui at the end of the month.
To date, this one military family has raised $100,000 for Smile Train, which funds cleft treatments for thousands of kids in more than 75 nations.
