ASHBURN, Va. — In honor of Mother's Day, we had to spotlight a proud mom moment from the Washington Commanders.
The Commanders dance team, the Command Force, welcomed two rookies to the squad, and they are dancing in their mothers' footsteps. Nyah Smart and Allison Rossomondo are both legacy team members. Both of their moms were Washington cheerleaders.
"When I tried out this year I made it and it was just a dream come true. Especially because it's Washington and she cheered for that team back in the '80s," Allison said of her mom Lisa.
"Now it's something we can both be a part of and share even into the alumni association," Lisa said.
Nyah Smart says her mom Jessica was a big part of why she's on the team now.
"If it wasn't for her being so motivating in all of the areas, I wouldn't even be here," she said.
Jessica said seeing her daughter follow in her footsteps was unexpected.
"This isn't anything that we planned, or talked about. It's just unfolding right in front of me. The same things I was doing. It's an extra proud mom moment," she said.
Nyah is just 18 years old and the youngest dancer on the squad. She hopes to inspire other young performers to take a leap of faith and audition.
