WASHINGTON — The WUSA9 Weather Watch team is tracking an area of low pressure that dumped heavy rain and snow on the West Coast. It is now taking aim on the DMV and will continue to bring scattered showers through Friday afternoon.
KEY DETAILS:
- Up to 0.25" of rainfall.
- A southeasterly wind will lead to the potential of minor coastal flooding late Thursday and into Friday morning.
- Winds become gusty on Friday and last through Saturday.
- Average peak wind gusts of 20-30 mph.
- Saturday will be blustery and noticeably cooler with temperatures in the 40s.
TIMELINE:
Midnight
Off-and-on showers will continue into the overnight hours.
6:00 a.m.
The Friday morning commute could be damp with a residual shower or two. Give yourself a few extra minutes for your morning drive to account for potentially wet roads.
12:00 p.m.
Showers will start to clear by lunch time Friday.
Rain will be over for the Friday afternoon commute with winds ramping up and sunshine and somewhat chillier air returning for the weekend.
RAIN:
A widespread 0.10" - 0.25" of rain is expected, but only just enough to wet the ground at Reagan National Airport. The timing of the rain will make it potentially impactful for both the Thursday evening rush and the last morning commute of the week, too.
WIND:
As rain moves out, winds could gust between 20 and 30 miles per hour Friday into Saturday. Light yard and patio objects, along with trash cans, should be secured.
