Heat Wave Safety: Montgomery Parks takes action to protect public

Don't expect to golf, take archery classes or ride the carousel.

WHEATON-GLENMONT, Md. — As temperatures continue to rise, several outdoor activities will be closing to the public in Montgomery County over the weekend.

On both Saturday and Sunday, the following recreational amenities will be suspended due to excessive heat warnings:

  • Boating at Black Hill Regional Park and Rock Creek Regional Park
  • The driving range at South Germantown Recreational Park
    (Golf classes will be rescheduled.)
  • Archery classes at South Germantown Recreational Park will be rescheduled.
  • The miniature trains at Cabin John Regional Park and Wheaton Regional Park
  • The carousel at Wheaton Regional Park

The only exception will be made for birthday parties that are scheduled for train rides.

Montgomery Parks encourages the public to take precautions during excessive heat waves, including:

  • Schedule outdoor activities for cooler times of the day, before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
  • Stay hydrated
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade and drink water
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
