DULLES, Va. — This year airline travel is expected to increase, hitting record numbers. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is expecting a six percent increase in travelers. From spring break students to summer travelers, airports are expected to be crowded and the airfare sky-high.
Once you’ve saved your coins for your vacation and beat the crowds at the airport, the real work begins, it’s time to get to your gate. Many airports involve a hefty hike from check-in to boarding. As air travel continues to grow, the length between gates and terminals only continues to increase.
For example, according to a study published by KURU footwear, the #1 longest airport walk comes in at 2.16 miles at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Coming in second is DMV’s very own Washington Dulles International Airport. With a walking distance of 1.62 miles, this airport houses 123 gates.
For context that’s nearly two-and-half laps around FedEx Field Stadium.
So, if you are flying out of Dulles, make sure to wear come comfy walking shoes because you're going to need them.
