WASHINGTON — Get into the holly jolly spirit this weekend with one of the many free and fun events happening around the District.

From the Downtown Holiday Market in Penn Quarter to the 12 Beers of Christmas, there is something for everyone this weekend.

Thursday, Dec. 14:

Improv for All! Workshop at the Petworth Library

  • Washington Improv Theatre will hold a free, instructor-led workshop from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in D.C.'s Petworth neighborhood.
  • No theatre experience is needed.
  • Free (registration required).

Wine Not? Adult Chair Dance Class

  • Get ready to dance the night away at the Washington School of Ballet SE campus.
  • The in-person class is about learning fun chair dance moves. 
  • No prior experience is needed.
  • Tickets are $25 per person.

Ice & Lights: The Winter Village at Cameron Run 

  • The Winter Village at Cameron Run is back for the 2023-24 season.
  • It is open nightly Nov. 17-Jan. 1 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
    • Ice skating is open Dec. 1-Jan. 1 and is included in Village admission (tickets must be purchased online due to capacity limits). 
  • Tickets start at $8 per person for general admission and $20 with ice skating included.

Friday, Dec. 15:

A.W.E. Open Mic at Brookland Busboys and Poets

  • For two hours, attendees can expect to hear from a diverse chorus of women's voices at this open mic event from 9 p.m. until 11 p.m.
  • Tickets are $5 per person online ($8 at the door).

Saturday, Dec. 16:

Downtown Holiday Market in Penn Quarter

  • Get some holiday shopping done at this outdoor market featuring local vendors from noon until 8 p.m.
  • It is located right in front of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery.
  • Free admission. 

12 Beers of Christmas: A Local Tasting at Metrobar

  • Try 12 local holiday brews from spiced ales to coffee stouts, to IPAs, and more at the seasonal beer-tasting event.
  • The tasting will be held at the bar in Northeast D.C. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., inside the heated railcar bar and platform.
  • Tickets are $22 per person and get you access to the afternoon tasting with 3oz pours of each of the 12 beers and discussion with the DC Beer team and the breweries in attendance.

Cleveland Park Santa Bar Brawl

  • From 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., get in the holly jolly spirit with a Santa-themed bar crawl.
  • Tickets are $15 per person.
  • Four bars are participating.

Sunday, Dec. 17:

Winter C&O Canal Walk 

  • Meet in the parking lot across from the Old Angler's Inn at 8 a.m. sharp to join others for a walk through Georgetown. 
  • The group will walk 12 miles downstream and will return on the same route along the Potomac River.
  • For anyone who wants to walk a shorter distance, the turnaround will be at Lock 7, for a 10-mile walk.
  • After the walk, the group will gather at the Old Anglers Beer/Pizza Garden to refuel. 
  • Free and open to everyone.
