WASHINGTON — With the Thanksgiving holiday right around the corner, WUSA9 has put together a list of free and fun events the whole family can enjoy. So, if you plan on staying in town, check out our list of weekend events for inspiration.

Thursday, November 23:

"Season's Greetings" exhibition at U.S. Botanic Garden

  • The holiday train display is back up and running again at the U.S. Botanic Garden now until Jan. 1 of the new year.
  • Visit the gardens from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. to see the new display.

Catfish Free Stand-Up Comedy Show at Shenanigan's Irish Pub

  • From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., head to the pub in Northwest for a free comedy show.
  • Ages 21 and up are welcome.
  • Catfish Comedy is produced by DC Improv Comics.

Karaoke & Comedy Night at Takoma Station Tavern

  • Get your friends together and head out for a night of singing your favorite songs.
  • Comedians will also be taking the stage throughout the night.
  • Doors open at 5 p.m., the show starts at 8 p.m.
  • Tickets are $10 per person.

Friday, November 24: 

Leftovers Party with Live Music at Metrobar 

  • Metrobar is holding a leftovers party from 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m.
  • Enjoy live music while burning off calories from the night before.

Live Comedy Show at the DC Comedy Clubhouse

  • Get ready to laugh out loud as a diverse range of comedians take the stage for this show starting at 8:30 p.m.
  • Tickets are $15 per person to see the show at the clubhouse located on 14th Street.

Friday Night Showcase at Room 808

  • The BYOB show kicks off at 8 p.m. in D.C.'s Petworth neighborhood. 
  • Tickets are $5 to $10 per person.

Saturday, November 25:

Improv Workshop at Martin Luther King Jr. Library 

  • From 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Washington Improv Theatre will hold a free introduction to improv workshop at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.

Fun Fall Hike at Rock Creek Park 

  • Join Migration and Refugee Policy Initiative (MRPI) for a 2-mile hike on the Rapids Bridge trail. 
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring water, comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a friend.
  • The hike begins at 10 a.m. sharp and the group will wait about ten minutes for any stragglers. 

Sunday, November 26:

Ice Skating at The Wharf, National Gallery of Art, or at the Washington Harbor

  • The Wharf's rink is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 8 p.m. Tickets range from $10-$13 to hit the rink and guests can rent skates for just $8.
  • The ice rink at the Sculpture Garden is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday to Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Tickets are $10-$12 per person and skate rentals are $6. Free lockers are available first-come, first-served.  
  • The rink at the Washington Harbour is open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with special hours through Thanksgiving week. Tickets range from $9 to $11 and there are $10 penguin rentals available.
