Woman dies in multi-vehicle crash that closed portion of Indian Head Highway

The crash involved four cars and left one driver dead Friday evening.

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — A woman is dead after a multi-vehicle crash in Fort Washington Friday evening. 

According to the Prince George's County Police Department, officers were called to the area of Fort Washington Road and Indian Head Highway around 6:15 p.m. for reports of a crash involving four cars. 

When officers arrived, they found one of the drivers, only identified as a woman, had died in the crash. Two other drivers were taken to an area hospital for help and are expected to survive. The fourth driver was not injured. 

Police continue to investigate what happened in the moments leading up to the deadly crash. 

Authorities confirmed Saturday morning that both north and southbound lanes of Indian Head Highway between East Swann Creek Road and Old Fort Road are open. 

While the identity of the victim has not been released, the Prince George's County Police Department said the investigation is ongoing.
