FAIRFAX, Va. — The Fairfax County Police Department is reminding drivers to stay alert while behind the wheel after a near-miss crash with one of their officers early Thursday morning.
On May 16, just after 1 a.m., an officer was responding to the area of Braddock Road and I-495 to help another officer who had pulled over a suspected drunk driver. When the officer arrived, he turned on his rear emergency lights, joining two other police cruisers who were both pulled over with their emergency lights on. While getting out of his patrol car, a driver struck his door.
Police say that the driver had a phone in her hands and was distracted. She was charged with failure to control her car, improper lane change, driving with an expired registration, and holding a phone while driving.
No one was injured.
