Some lanes back open after tractor trailer crash on I-495 in McLean

Here's what drivers need to know.

MCLEAN, Va. — Commuters in the McLean area should brace for significant delays as an overturned tractor-trailer has led to the complete closure of northbound lanes on I-495 (Beltway Inner Loop) at Georgetown Pike. The crash, which occurred early Monday morning, left all northbound lanes blocked, forcing drivers to seek alternate routes for several hours.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the crash has resulted in injury and has led to a full shutdown of the Inner Loop travel lanes under the VA-193 overpass. Two lanes were back open to drivers by 9:30 a.m.  The resulting traffic disruption has caused delays that are stretching back before I-66 for Inner Loop drivers. On the Outter Loop, rubbernecking delays have begun building up in Maryland before MD-190.

VDOT is advising travelers to avoid the area if possible and seek different paths to their destinations.
