Route 50 in Fairfax County back open after dump truck crash

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Route 50 in Fairfax County was closed in both directions because of an early morning crash. Police say downed wires forced the closure at Fair Ridge Drive in the Fair Lakes area.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened. The crash was first reported around 2 a.m. When officers arrived they found a truck had crashed, and there were downed wires at the scene. Responding officers closed Route 50 in both directions. The road was closed for several hours during the Monday morning commute. Route 50 reopened to traffic around 6:45 a.m.

Major delays and traffic backups were reported while the crash scene was cleared and the wires were moved from the road.

Police say no injuries were reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
