One lane will stay open. The full traffic stops will be up to 30 minutes and will only be between midnight and 5 a.m.

  • Friday, Aug. 30, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    • One lane will be closed northbound and/or southbound throughout the project corridor as needed for maintenance work and traffic management.

Changes to George Washington Memorial Parkway to I-495 South:

  • Monday Aug. 26, through Thursday, Aug. 29, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

    • The on-ramp from north and westbound George Washington Memorial Parkway to southbound I-495 will be closed for bridge deck repair work. Drivers can take a detour across the American Legion Bridge into Maryland to Exit 41 to Clara Barton Parkway, and then back toward Virginia. There will be a sign.

Changes to Live Oak Drive:

  • Monday, Aug. 26, through Thursday, Aug. 29, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 30, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Flagging operations alternating single traffic lanes will be in effect. Flagging operations may occur during weeknight overnight hours between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. if needed.

Changes to Georgetown Pike Interchange:

  • Monday, Aug. 26, 12 a.m. to 5 a.m.

    • Georgetown Pike will become only two lanes from its usual five between Balls Hill Road and Linganore Drive for shifting traffic to the new Georgetown Pike Bridge. One lane will remain open in each direction, eastbound and westbound. All ramps between I-495 and Georgetown Pike will be closed with detours in effect.

Changes to Old Dominion Drive:

    • One right or left lane will be closed on the eastbound Dulles Airport Access Road near the I-495 interchange for bridge work.

Changes to traffic:

New exit ramp for I-495 north exit to Dulles Toll Road

  • Drivers heading northbound on I-495 heading for westbound Dulles Toll Road must take a new, earlier exit. The new exit ramp is located about one-third of a mile ahead of the old, closed Exit 45. The Beltway has been reduced from four to three lanes for approximately a half mile near the Dulles Corridor interchange to help facilitate the change.

George Washington Memorial Parkway West at I-495

  • The ramp from westbound George Washington Memorial Parkway to southbound Beltway has been reduced from two lanes to one lane to make room for a construction vehicle haul route that will be separated from traffic by a physical barrier. This traffic change will be in effect throughout construction on the 495 NEXT project.
