WASHINGTON — A suspect is in custody for assaulting a Metrobus training instructor.

The Metro Transit Police Department arrived at the Tenleytown Metro Station shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday to investigate the assault. Preliminary investigation showed the suspect refused to pay the fare to get on the bus.

A bus operator/training instructor on board the bus got into an argument with the suspect. The argument escalated and the suspect threw a beverage on the training instructor, then physically assaulted them.

The suspect fled the scene but was stopped nearby and arrested. First responders evaluated the training instructor on the scene and later released them.

No information on who the suspect is or if they are facing charges have been released at this time.
