SILVER SPRING, Md. — With ongoing construction along the Metro Red Line, officials with Downtown Silver Spring have created an incentive program for metro riders impacted by the summer shutdown.

The Downtown Silver Spring Metro Station is located on Georgia Ave just a few blocks from the heart of downtown Silver Spring. The summer shutdown allows WMATA to make necessary upgrades to stations between Glenmont and Takoma Park through Aug. 31.

In addition to offering free parking and shuttle buses, officials wanted to incentivize customers to enjoy the restaurants, entertainment, and shopping that is available in the area, so they created a SmarTrip Shutdown Deals program. Customers can show their SmarTrip card or app and receive discounts from places like Matchbox, Kusshi Sushi, Dog Haus, LebTav, MyEyeDr. Maryland Youth Ballet, Ace Hardware and more.

Customers can also enter to win a $100 gift card at Nike Unite, H&M, LOFT, or Uniqlo by texting "SMART" to 301-750-1287. Additional deals will be added throughout the summer.
