GERMANTOWN, Md. — Some roads in Germantown were blocked because of a tractor trailer fire early Thursday morning.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews responded to the vehicle fire call around 5:30 a.m., according to Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for the fire department. Crews arrived to find a Wegman's tractor trailer fully engulfed in flames in the area of Observation Drive and Ridge Road. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.
Observation Drive between Shakespeare Boulevard and Ridge Road was expected to be closed for an extended period of time due to fire activity. Piringer said water from fire hoses used to douse the flames were causing dangerous, icy conditions because of the cold morning temperatures. A salt truck was requested to the scene. A hazardous materials team was also requested to make sure no fuel spilled onto the road.
Drivers in the area should expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
