Driver runs away after hitting, killing pedestrian in Virginia

Fairfax Police are still searching for the driver involved.

SPRINGFIELD, Va. — A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a driver in Springfield, Virginia Friday morning. Fairfax County Police are searching for the driver involved, who left the scene of the crash on foot. 

Police say the crash happened at the intersection of Franconia Road and Elder Avenue around 7 a.m. That's not far from John R. Lewis High School.

 Officers arrived and found the pedestrian, only identified as a man, dead on scene. The driver involved was nowhere to be found.

Police are still searching for the driver. Right now, the crash investigation has closed down Franconia Road at Elder Avenue in both directions. Drivers should use alternate routes.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
