CROFTON, Md. — Police are still working to figure out what caused a tractor trailer to overturn in Anne Arundel County early Wednesday morning. The truck lost its load of timber, closing lanes in the area for a time.
The crash was first reported around 6 a.m. in Crofton at Crain Highway (Maryland Route 3) near Defense Highway (Maryland Route 450). When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found the driver of the truck was trapped. Firefighter Don Clime with Anne Arundel County Fire told WUSA9 that the driver has been pulled from the truck and taken to an area hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
As of 6:30 a.m., a hazardous materials team and representatives from the Maryland Department of the Environment were on scene, working to remove gas from the tractor trailer's fuel tanks before working to get the truck upright. Eastbound lanes of Defense Highway were closed for crash clean up. Crain Highway was closed briefly, but is expected to reopen soon, according to Clime.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash. No other vehicles were involved and no additional injuries were reported.
