FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — An 89-year-old man is dead after getting hitting a driver while riding his bicycle near Penderwood on Thursday.

Just after noon, officers with the Fairfax County Police Department responded to the intersection of West Ox Road and Tilton Valley Drive for a person riding an electric bicycle who had been hit by the driver of a Kia Optima.

Detectives say the bicyclist was heading westbound on Tilton Valley Drive and made a left onto southbound West Ox Road. The driver of the Kia was traveling southbound on West Ox Road in the right lane when it was struck by the bicycle.

The bicyclist, later identified as 89-year-old Richard Albrecht, of Oakton, was taken to an area hospital for treatment where he later died. The driver of the Kia waited for police to arrive at the intersection where the crash occurred and was not injured as a result.

Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
