FAIRFAX, Va. — The Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics is scheduled to take place on Friday and local Olympians won't be the only familiar faces in the crowd.
The Fairfax County Police Department has announced that they have partnered with the Paris Olympics to provide key security at the games. Fairfax County Police is one of four U.S. Police departments tapped to assist with security.
Twelve officers and an explosive detection dog will be heading to Paris to partner with the French National Police to help protect the athletes, spectators and staff at the Olympic Games.
“I am immensely proud to announce this prestigious opportunity for our officers to represent our community at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” said Chief Kevin Davis. “This opportunity showcases FCPD’s commitment to public safety both domestically and on a global stage.”
Fairfax County officers will be stationed across Paris and assigned to areas of public safety, transportation security, foreign assistance and international security missions.
Before they left for the Olympics, all officers were trained in first aid, explosive detection, intelligence briefings and international police best practices.
