Your guide to the DMV athletes heading to the Olympics

Among them is Quincy Wilson, who historians say is the youngest U.S. male track & field athlete to make an Olympic team.

PARIS, France — As the summer sun warms the streets of the DMV, a different kind of heat builds among its athletes destined for Paris: the feverish excitement of Olympic dreams coming true.

Several local athletes will be going for gold this summer in Paris. Among them is Quincy Wilson, the youngest U.S. male track & field athlete to make an Olympic team, according to historians. Also Taylor Knibb who represents the only U.S. athlete to qualify for two sports.

Here's a look at who will be competing from our area:

DC:

Kat Holmes

Sport: Fencing 

Age: 30

Honors: 

  • Member of the first U.S. Women’s Epee Team to win a Senior World Championship title, a Senior World Cup gold medal
  • Four-time NCAA All-American
  • Qualified for her first national team at 15

Taylor Knibb

Olympic experience:  Silver medal in 2020 games (mixed relay), 16th (individual)

Honors: 

  • At 23 years old, Knibb was the youngest woman ever to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team. She won a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics in the triathlon team relay
  • She came in third place at the 2021 Ironman 70.3 World Championship 
  • A 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series winner in Hamburg
  • A 2023 Ironman 70.3 Boulder winner
  • She is the only U.S. athlete to qualify in two different sports
