Commanders VP suspended after being caught on secret recording calling Commanders fans 'mouth breathers,' 'high school educated alcoholics'

A Commanders spokesperson called the comments, "counter to the values" of the organization

ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders have suspended a team vice president for calling Commanders fans “mouth breathers” and “high school educated alcoholics.” He also labeled Black players as "homophobic" and called NFL players "dumb as hell" in a video posted to social media Wednesday.

Commanders Vice President of Content Rael Enteen was secretly recorded having a conversation at a restaurant table with a member of the O’Keefe Media Group, owned by “Project Veritas” founder James O’ Keefe III, who touts himself as a “guerrilla journalist” on his X profile. “Project Veritas” and the O’Keefe Media Group have a history of using secret recordings in reporting.

“The language used in the video runs counter to our values at the Commanders organization,” said Sean Debarbieri, Commanders vice president of football communications. “We have suspended the employee pending an internal investigation and will reserve further comment at this time.”

In the video, which is heavily edited and often cuts out portions of what Enteen is saying, the Commanders VP also said his job is to “sell hope” to a fan base that historically has not had much.

“We have had pipes leaking sewage on our fans in the middle of a game, and I have to put out a social post saying like ‘it wasn’t sewage water, we promise," Enteen can be heard saying. "That is state-run media.”

Enteen also takes aim at NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, calling him “a puppet," and offered opinions on Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who Enteen said “really does run the NFL."

“I think he hates gay people and black people,” Enteen said of Jones.
