First on WUSA9: Commanders QB Jayden Daniels sits down 1-on-1 to talk being the face of a franchise

Jayden Daniels will be the eighth straight different starting QB for Washington in week 1 games.

ASHBURN, Va. — Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has two chances to play in the final preseason game Sunday night against the Patriots: slim and none.

However, head coach Dan Quinn will make the official announcement on playing time on Friday.

Daniels is four months removed from being drafted second overall by the Commanders out of LSU. He’s done everything that’s been asked of him. His work ethic has been lauded by the coaching staff and his teammates. In his first one-on-one interview of training camp, Daniels told me being the face of the franchise is something he’s ready for. He knows the fan base is starved for a winner, and starved for stability, considering Daniels will be the eighth straight different starting QB for Washington in week 1 games.

“I prepare my body, and stuff like that, to be able to go out there and endure 17 games," the quarterback said. "I’m still learning but it's a process."

As for living out his lifelong dream, playing in the NFL, what’s his dream scenario for week one? Yours truly suggested seven touchdown passes would be a nice dream.

“Hopefully lead the team to a win, a victory, that’s the main thing," Daniels said. "Not just for me but for the team. We want to go out there and be competitive, show that we’re a new organization, we’re a new team. [We want to] go out there and compete for some wins.”

As I've said before, humility and talent are two of the things you notice most about our Commanders starter.
