ASHBURN, Va. — Fans attending Commanders training camp on Tuesday were treated to a surprise appearance by several members of the ownership group -- a welcome change from the previous regime, fans said.
Majority owner Josh Harris was at the Commanders facility ahead of a board meeting, but he dropped in to practice alongside General Manager Adam Peters to sign some autographs and take pictures with the fans. The atmosphere of having an engaged owner did not go unnoticed by fans.
"Just seeing the owners being here is definitely different -- it's not something you would see with the previous regime, unfortunately," said one fan decked out in full burgundy and gold. "So it definitely adds to the energy levels here, for sure."
When asked what that meant to her as a fan, one woman summed it up with just one word: commitment.
"I'm glad they're actually interested in the team," added another young fan.
While Harris spent time mixing it up with fans, the majority of his time was spent on the sidelines watching the Commanders run plays, including quarterback Jayden Daniels.
On the field, practice went well. The offense hit on a few more deep balls than they have all camp. Wide receiver Jahan Dotson said that the defense normally has the upper hand early in camp as the offense goes through the installation mode, now you’re seeing the fruits of their labor. The only negative was that safety Benjamin St. Juste came out for practice early for individual drills, but then went back inside for good. There's been no word on his situation.
The Commanders will have a day off Wednesday to review practice tape and set a game plan for when they return to the field for a seventh day of camp Thursday.
