Commanders fans show up and show out for first public day of training camp

Commanders fans came decked out in burgundy and gold, holding signs and carrying with them optimism for the new season.

ASHBURN, Va. — Commanders fans were bursting with energy Sunday morning at the first day of training camp open to the public.

While practice didn't start until 9 a.m., fans had no problem getting to Commanders Park in Ashburn bright and early. They came decked out in burgundy and gold, holding signs and carrying with them optimism for the new season.

"I'm excited, keeping hope alive," said longtime fan Jackie Amber. "We want this win this year. We need to get to the Super Bowl -- we haven't been since 1992."

Tickets to the first day fans could come watch training camp were sold out quickly, and fans WUSA9 spoke to listed several reasons why.

"Jayden Daniels, Austin Ekeler, new ownership," said Landin Shaw, who had traveled from  Massachusetts. "I definitely think it's going to be amazing."

While it feels like we've had many of these seasons before where fans say they are "more excited than ever," with new coach Dan Quinn and the number two draft pick as the likely starting quarterback, the fans at training camp Sunday said they are feeling confident it’ll be a good season.

But the one thing that stays the same every year, is Commanders fans' desire to see a win over their arch nemesis: the Dallas Cowboys.

"Cowboys ... that would be our Super Bowl," laughed one fan.

Fans will be present again at training camp Monday, for salute day, honoring veterans and current members of our armed forces. Tickets to almost all the training camp events open to the public are sold out, save for two season ticket holder events. But if you are one of the lucky ones to score tickets, here's what you'll need to know before you head to the field
