Commanders kicker Brandon McManus released from team after being sued for sexual assault

On Sunday, Commanders issued a short press release stating they were making a “roster move." In the release they announced Brandon McManus is being released.

WASHINGTON — The Washington Commanders have released Kicker Brandon McManus from the team.

On Sunday, the team issued a short press release stating they were making a “roster move." In the press release they announced McManus will not be playing for the Commanders this upcoming season.

We previously reported that McManus was being sued by two women for sexual assault.

The women say the incident occurred on a charter flight to London last year, while McManus was still playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

WUSA9, spoke with a rep from the team on May 28, who said they were made aware of the lawsuit and were looking into it.

However, the team did not say McManus’ pending lawsuit was the reason for his release from the organization on Sunday.

The victims are suing McManus for $1 million and seeking a jury trial.

McManus signed with the Commanders this past March. The Philadelphia native has been in the league for a decade.
