Washington Commanders host day of service to give back to the DMV

Legends, rookies and other members of the team will be in attendance.

WASHINGTON — The Washington Commanders are doing some good off the gridiron Wednesday. Current and former players, as well as members of the organization are taking advantage of their break from organized team activities to host a day of service for the community.

Members of the Commanders latest rookie class, along with Washington legends, and Marjorie Harris — Chair of the Washington Commanders Foundation — say they plan to show up for the community the way the fans show up for the team on gameday.

The day of service will feature three events across the District focusing on youth sports, STEM and education.

The day will begin with a Skills and Drills Youth Football Clinic at H.D. Woodson High School in Ward 7. Washington legends will host the clinic, meet students and snap some photos.

After that, the team will unveil plans for the new Commanders Little Combine space at the National Children's Museum. The space is designed to encourage active play for the museum's youngest visitors.

Meanwhile, Commanders rookies will be at Rocketship Rise Academy Public Charter School in Ward 8 to build a garden and paint a mural. The event at Rocketship Rise is meant to kickstart a larger outdoor learning lab project aimed at supporting an emphasis on STEM learning.
