WASHINGTON — We are less than 24 hours away from the AFC Championship game. The Baltimore Ravens vs the Kansas City Chiefs. Tomorrow, fans will pack the stands of M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore and the excitement is already brewing across the DMV.
WUSA 9 hit the town, interacted with the community, and stopped by your favorite local bars to see how fans plan to watch the game on Sunday.
“Ravens by 10.”
“ Ravens BIG”
“Patrick Mahomes is in the Chiefs!”
The city is pretty mixed with fans cheering from both sides of the field. For the first time since 2013, the Ravens have the chance to play in the Super Bowl.
With so much on the line, a friend-group we spoke with told us they decided not to place any bets on the game to avoid tension.
Bars across the district are preparing for the influx of fans. At Nanny O’Briens in Northwest D.C., they’re expecting three times the customers.
“I expect people to come in an hour and a half before the game to guard their space and we’ll be ready.” Teddy Jurith, a bartender at Nanny O'Briens told our Leslie Moreno.
At Free State, doors are opening two hours early. Tracy Epperson says they get a mix of fans so there’s always a bit of tension, but lots of fun.
“It’s fun bartending in general. When you’re minding your own business making a drink and all of a sudden, the crowd erupts in a scream. it’s exciting.” said Tracey Epperson.
Regardless of what side you’re on, the stakes are high. The winning team will head to the Super Bowl.
If you are looking for places to watch the game tomorrow, we have a full list of bars across the DMV that will be streaming the game and offering drink specials.
The AFC Championship Game will air on WUSA 9 starting at 3 p.m.
