WASHINGTON — Looking for a job? The Washington Nationals have some fun openings for next season, including a member of the NatPack (the in-game entertainment crew) and ball girl. But if you're looking for something a little more theatrical, applications are now being accepted to be a Racing President!
Originally a scoreboard video feature, the Racing Presidents "came to life" in 2006 and have been a mainstay at Nationals games since. They are regularly featured on ESPN and have garnered the IDEA Conference “Best Interactive Feature” Award and GameOps.com "Best OF On-Field Promotion" award on multiple occasions. The Racing Presidents not only race in the mid-4th inning, but also greet fans at the gates before home games and Meet and Greet with the fans after the race until the bottom of the 5th inning.
Those wishing to apply must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Applicants are also asked to take on the persona of the Racing President they encompass. Previous mascot experience is preferred but not required.
Sorry, short kings and queens, Racing Presidents must be between 5'7" and 6'6" in height. They also must be able to function (and of course run) while wearing a 50-pound costume.
If this sounds like you, fill out the application here. If you make the cut, you'll be invited to the annual tryouts at Nats Park in November.
