DC Police arrest man that women claimed stalked them, followed them home

For almost a month, Schauss told WUSA9, she and other neighbors have been followed by the man arrested by police Sunday.

WASHINGTON — For the last month Jennifer Schauss has felt like she couldn't let her guard down even for a second. But now that police have arrested the man she believes has been following her- and several other women -- she's finally breathing a sigh of relief.

On Sunday, DC Police arrested and charged 39-year-old Delonta Deon Spriggs of Northeast, D.C. He is accused of  stalking and harassing women in Northwest D.C., specifically the Foggy Bottom and Georgetown neighborhoods.

“It’s nice not to have to look over your shoulder, in the daytime or in the evening,” Schauss said, reacting to the arrest.

Schauss told WUSA9 she and other neighbors have been followed by the same man for nearly a month. She claims she was one of several women followed home, and in some cases, they say the accused stalker would peak through their windows in broad daylight.

Police said Spriggs was caught thanks to the help of community members

“Im grateful for the community that came together, news reporters, police [and the] ANC commissioner," Schauss said.

Spriggs allegedly stalked Schauss on multiple occasions from July 5-21. Schauss and her neighbors said they feel much safer now, and are grateful to have made an impact in their community.

“It’s still smart to look over your shoulder and be aware of your surroundings," Schauss said. "As far as the other victims, everyone has a sense of relief and thankful for everyone that came together."

Spriggs is expected to appear in court in August.

DC Police said the department is still investigating other similar offenses that occurred nearby.
