Dump truck driver knocks down sign along I-95 and keeps driving

Traffic cameras from the area showed a dump truck traveling north on I-95 with its dump bed fully raised when it struck an overheard sign.

FAIRFAX, Va. — Virginia State Police are asking for the public's help locating the dump truck that hit an overhead highway sign along I-95 and kept going.

On Thursday, VSP was called for reports of debris along the northbound lanes of I-95 near the 168-mile marker in Fairfax County just after 12:15 p.m. Traffic cameras from the area showed a dump truck traveling north on I-95 with its dump bed fully raised. That is when the truck reportedly struck an overhead sign.

The impact from the hit was so significant it brought the entire sign down and left debris along three lanes. It had evening rush hour traffic at a standstill as crews worked to clear the debris from the highway.

The investigation is ongoing as officers search for the driver of the dump truck.
