LORTON, Va. — Fairfax County Police have identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash that happened in the Mount Vernon section of Alexandria.

Police said Daniel Yeboah, 52, was struck and killed by a vehicle in the evening hours of Jan. 16.

According to police, Yeboah was crossing Richmond Highway on foot near the intersection of Pohick Road around 9:45 p.m when he was hit by a 2019 Dodge Ram traveling north on Richmond Highway.

Detectives say Yeboah was also struck by the driver of a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM who did not see the first impact. The driver of the Pontiac reported the incident. Mr. Yeboah died at the scene, according to police.

The drivers of both vehicles stayed at the scene and have been cooperating with detectives, officials said.

Yeboah was not in the crosswalk when he was struck, police said.

Officials say they do not suspect either driver was speeding or under the influence of alcohol. Detectives have not yet determined if alcohol was a determining factor for Yeboah.

According to police, Mr. Yeboah is the second pedestrian to die on Fairfax County streets this year, and both victims were hit on Richmond Highway.

Officials say the first pedestrian killed was Peace Nana Asante, 51, of the Alexandria section of Fairfax County.  Asante was crossing Richmond Highway outside of the crosswalk near South Kings Highway around 8 p.m., January 9th, when she was hit by the driver of a 2001 Toyota Corolla.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the Fairfax County Police Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543.
