FAIRFAX, Va. — Police are searching for the person who stole an ambulance in Fairfax County Monday night.
According to Fairfax County Police, the man, identified as 32-year-old Rickey Lowe of Manassas, is still on the run.
The private medical transport ambulance was reportedly stolen from Fairfax Hospital and has since been recovered. It is unclear how long the stolen ambulance was unaccounted for.
Police say the Lowe was one of the five people injured when a reportedly stolen vehicle crashed on Interstate 66 Monday afternoon. Authorities on that crash scene say guns and drugs were recovered from the stolen vehicle involved in the crash.
While Lowe had not yet been discharged, police say he walked away with an IV in his arm. He reportedly was wearing a green medical gown when he jumped into the ambulance and drove away.
The recovered ambulance can be seen in the photo below:
The ambulance was recovered in a bank parking lot in the 4200 block of Annandale Road, which is about two miles away from the hospital.
Tuesday morning, most of the business owners near where the private ambulance was recovered weren't aware they were so close to the scene.
"We heard it on the news," Paula Luabun said. "But we didn’t think it was back there! Not nearby!"
When Paula came in to work at her family's watch business off Annandale Road she barely looked through the overnight security camera video. When we asked her to-sure enough around 8:54 p.m., a man walks through the parking lot in a white hospital gown and IV still in his arm.
"I thought it was a ghost! He was there in all white," Luabun said.
After Lowe ditched the ambulance, the video Paula's camera captured appears to be the last time footage of Lowe.
However, Fairfax County Police said they had reports from Prince William County that someone had seen Lowe in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Lowe has a number of gun and drug possession charges on his record.
Lowe is described as a bald man, weighing around 300 pounds, with tattoos on his arms. There is no word on why the suspect stole the ambulance.
Fairfax County Police said at the time he was hospitalized, Lowe was not facing any charges related to the stolen vehicle that wrecked.
"Now, we search for him for the stolen medical transport," Fairfax Co. Lt. Jim Curry said.
If you see the suspect, police ask you to call 911.
