MCLEAN, Va. — Police are searching for the second teen involved in a carjacking that occurred at Tyson's Mall, Thursday evening. Officers have already arrested and charged one of the carjackers after they threw an unknown liquid on the victim claiming it was acid.
At 6:24 p.m., officers with the Fairfax County Police Department responded to a parking garage in the 7900 block of Tysons Corner Center in McLean for a carjacking. At the mall, officers learned two people forcefully took a man's keys, threw an unknown liquid on him, and fled the parking garage in his car, a 2022 Blue BMW X5, in an unknown direction.
Detectives say the liquid thrown does not appear to be caustic, meaning it is not capable of destroying or eating away by chemical action. It was later determined the substance used was liquid sour candy.
An off-duty DC police detective noticed the car fleeing and coordinated with Montgomery County Police as it was entering their jurisdiction to recover the car and apprehend one the carjackers.
Police say no one was injured as a result of the carjacking and no weapons were used during the encounter.
Detectives are actively investigating this carjacking as one teen still remains at large. The second person is described as a Hispanic male, around 5-foot-3, and short black hair.
