LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — There are tons of pets who do not have a home this holiday season. One Loudoun County woman is turning the lens on the issue and helping to raise money for two animal welfare groups.
Ellen Zangla has always been passionate about photographing animals. Nearly two years ago, she decided to give back to the community by raising money for local pets in need.
"For me, it was really important to help animals in the community that I live in and it has already had an impact," said Zangla.
Zangla has six pets of her own including a cat she adopted from the Loudoun Community Cat Coalition and a dog from Friends of Loudoun County Animal Services. She is now helping these two organizations through a project she calls "Tails of Loudoun County."
"I've always done a lot of fundraising and I thought this project could have an even greater impact," said Zangla.
Money raised from book sales has already raised more than $27,000.
Michelle Zebrowski, the president of Friends of Loudoun County Animal Services, said the money helps dozens of animals get the care they need.
"The majority of that money is spent for medical cases so that could be surgeries, amputations, behavioral training for some of the dogs, enrichment activities for some of the other animals so the money really goes a long way," said Zebrowski.
Zangla said she does not view it as work, it is her way of giving back to the community she loves.
