Ready for adoption: Arlington animal rescue saves 26 puppies, 9 kittens

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue saved the animals from multiple overcrowded shelters in South Carolina, and they are up for adoption now.

WASHINGTON — 'Tis the season for gift-giving and getting in the holiday spirit! Those looking for the perfect gift for an animal lover around the DMV should look no further.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue took in 26 puppies and nine kittens from overcrowded shelters in South Carolina. The animals all need new forever homes and are all up for adoption now.

Mirah Horowitz, the Executive Director and Founder of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, said that when the organization heard of the overcrowding at the shelters, they knew they had to intervene.

"When we heard about the record-number of puppies showing up at the shelter’s doorstep, we knew we had to act quickly," Horowitz said.

The overcrowding in South Carolina shelters are threatening the overall health and safety of the animals there, Lucky Dog said.

The organization said that levels of overcrowding in South Carolina have been "historic," and that the most vulnerable animals are usually the youngest, like kittens and puppies.

For those who want to hold the puppies and kittens and see them in person, an adoption event was held at the PetsMart at Falls Church on Sunday. The event allowed some pet lovers the opportunity to take home their forever friend, but there are still some up for adoption.
