FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Fairfax County Park Authority announced on Friday that it will revert the existing racquet courts at Kendale Woods Park to tennis-only courts.
Over the last few years, pickleball has grown in popularity across the world. In response to the rapid growth, Park Authority took an aggressive approach and began adding courts solely dedicated to pickleball and dual-lined courts for tennis and pickleball in an effort to create more opportunities for athletes to play.
The dual-lined courts at Kendale Woods Park were installed before the Fairfax County 2021 Pickleball Study guidelines were published. The guidelines outlined several criteria for the placement of courts within residential areas. This helps mitigate noise in the surrounding residencies.
FCPA determined that Kendale Woods Park does meet the pickleball guideline criteria. The process to locate a new place to install the courts has already begun.
As of now, the Park Authority will start repainting and striping the court for tennis only starting on June 3. The work is anticipated to be completed on Monday, June 17.
