Pickleball players from NoVA, DC-Metro hoping to bring home prize at 2024 Minto US OPEN Pickleball Championships

The event will host more than 3,000 amateur and professional pickleball players of all ages and skill levels.

RESTON, Va. — Local pickleball is going national as players from the area compete at the 2024 Minto US Open Pickleball Championships.

More than a dozen players from the Northern Virginia and D.C. are taking the sport they love on the road to Naples, Florida on April 13-20. The event will host a record number of more than 3,000 amateur and professional pickleball players of all ages and skill levels from all 50 states and close to 30 different countries. 

Ahead of the competitive event the players from the area attended practice session Tuesday where they hit the court to practice for the singles, women's doubles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles. The prep practice was held at Autumnwood Tennis and Pickleball Courts in Reston. 

Some of the participants from the area include Amy Farabow, of Oakton, Virginia; and Dani Mackey, of Reston, Virginia, who played high school tennis together at Churchill High School in Potomac before graduating in 1983. Farabow wil also be competing with her husband, Ron Cortese. 

The championship will be streamed daily on Pickleball Channel with the women's and men's pro action broadcast live on CBS Sports Network on Friday, April 19 from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, April 20 from 5-9 p.m. ET.
