ARLINGTON, Va. — A woman accused of killing her friend over fentanyl pills is in custody.
On Tuesday, Karen Nicole Pollard was involved in a car chase with police after a “Be On The Lookout” was issued in Virginia. Arlington County Police issued the alert just before noon for a blue Audi sedan that had been carjacked from the 2200 block of 2nd Street N.
The victim told police Pollard approached her from behind, grabbed her by the shoulders and demanded her car keys. The victim attempted to get away and a struggle ensued. Pollard told the woman she had a gun. At that point, the victim stopped resisting and gave Pollard the keys.
Pollard got in the car and fled the scene. While she was driving on I-495, a Virginia State Trooper recognized the car from the lookout and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
Once the trooper activated his lights and sirens, Pollard sped off. As she crossed into Prince George’s County, county officers joined the pursuit. Pollard tried to take Exit 7, but lost control and crashed into several other vehicles.
Pollard was arrested and transported to the nearest hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
It is unknown if anyone else sustained any injuries.
Pollard has been on the run since December 2023. Woodbridge police suspect Pollard was involved in the shooting that killed her friend 51–year-old Patricia Kathlean Beglin on December 28, 2023.
Officers believe Pollard and Beglin got into an argument over fentanyl pills. The argument escalated and Pollard shot Beglin.
In addition to murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charges, Pollard will face state charges for Tuesday’s chase.
