Troopers investigate shooting on I-495 in Virginia

Law enforcement closed a section of I-495's inner loop on Thursday to search for evidence.

MCLEAN, Va. — Virginia State Police responded to a reported shooting on Interstate 495 early Thursday morning. According to dispatchers, troopers were called to the northbound lanes near Exit 45 for Route 267 near Dulles Toll Road just after 6:08 a.m.

A driver in a van was stopped alongside the northbound lanes of I-495 when VSP troopers got to the scene. The driver told responding troopers that his vehicle had a bullet hole in the passenger side.

VSP spokesperson Corinne Geller said troopers continue to investigate to see exactly what happened. So far, no injuries have been reported.

Troopers are asking anyone who may have been in the area between 5:50 a.m. and 6:05 a.m. to contact them at 804-750-8798 or by email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.

Law enforcement shut down a section of I-495's inner loop at Tysons later on Thursday morning so investigators could search the interstate for evidence of the shooting.
