DUMFRIES, Va. — Eight people, including two children, are without a place to live after a large townhouse fire in Dumfries last week. The flames damaged neighboring homes, making them unsafe to occupy, according to the fire marshal's office in Prince William County.
Firefighters were called to the 16300 block of Taconic Circle in Dumfries on Friday evening. after a passerby reported seeing flames. When crews arrived, they found flames shooting from the rear of the home, spreading rapidly to the attic and adjoining homes.
A second alarm was called to get more firefighters to the scene, and keep flames from spreading further. The fire was quickly brought under control. Matt Smolsky with the Prince William County Fire Marshal's Office said a total of four units were damaged in varying degrees. The home where the fire started sustained extensive damage. Three of the townhomes were unsafe to occupy.
As a result, six adults and two children were displaced. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The fire marshal's office said the cause was an accidental electrical fire.
