DULLES, Va. — House lawmakers have just introduced legislation to rename the largest airport in the DMV area after former President Donald Trump. House Bill 7854 would designate Washington Dulles International Airport as the Donald J. Trump International Airport.
Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, a Republican from Pennsylvania, introduced the bill. It has six Republican co-sponsors so far: Reps. Michael Waltz of Florida, Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Charles Fleischmann of Tennessee, Paul Gosar of Arizona, Barry Moore of Alabama and Troy Nehls of Texas.
"In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump," Reschenthaler said in a statement to CBS News. "As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing 'Welcome to Trump International Airport' as they land on American soil."
The airport first opened to passengers in 1962 and is named after John Foster Dulles, who was Secretary of State under President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1959.
So far, the bill has only been introduced. Its chances of passing in Congress are slim, given the Democrat-controlled Senate and a slim Republican majority in the House.
