The pedestrian has been identified as a 63-year-old man from Hybla Valley. Officers found him in a grassy area near the abandoned car.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Police are searching for the driver of a stolen car who hit and killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning before fleeing the scene. At this time, there is no suspect description available.

At 12:17 a.m. Sunday morning, officers were searching the Hybla Valley area in Alexandria for a car that was stolen overnight Saturday, March 9 from the 7900 block of Sausalito Place. An officer spotted the stolen black 2015 Hyndai Sonata on Buckman Road near Russell Road. The driver behind the wheel of the stolen Sonata sped away after noticing police. Officers did not pursue.

Around 15 minutes later, an officer saw the stolen car speeding down Janna Lee Avenue towards a dead end. Investigators say the driver then sideswiped an occupied car near Tamarind Street. After following the direction of the driver, officers found the stolen car crashed into a dumpster and abandoned. A pedestrian was found in the grass nearby suffering from injuries as a result of being hit by the car.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital following the crash where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as James Johnson, 63, of Hybla Valley.

Police have not yet been able to locate the driver. No suspect description is available at this time.

Preliminarily, detectives determined the driver of the stolen car sideswiped a car on Janna Lee Avenue and struck Johnson in the roadway on Janna Lee Avenue before crashing into a dumpster.
