CENTREVILLE, Va. — An investigation is underway in Fairfax County after a dog was found stabbed to death near a wooded trail earlier this month. Police describe the dog as a young female Pitbull mix, with grey and white fur.
On Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a small trail connecting Route 29 and South Barros Court in Centreville. A community member walking in the area found the dead dog near a wooded trail behind some townhomes.
Officers believe the dog was likely left in the are for less than 24 hours prior to being found. A necropsy was conducted and it was determined the dog was stabbed multiple times.
Police are asking anyone who lives in the area of O'Day Drive and Barros Drive to review their surveillance footage for any suspicious activity.
The investigation into this deadly stabbing is active and ongoing.
So far, police have not identified any suspects or persons of interest in connection with the dog's death.
Detectives hope gathering surveillance footage from neighbors will help with their investigation.
