CHANTILLY, Va. — A gas leak near Westfield High School in Fairfax County shut down roads in the area Wednesday morning.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Services responded to the report of a gas leak in the 14800 block of Willard Road in the Chantilly area around 11 a.m. Arriving crews initially thought a two-inch gas line had been struck causing the leak, further investigation found an 8-inch gas line was hit. Firefighters have not said exactly what caused the leak.
Washington Gas and hazardous materials crews are on the scene working to stop the leak. Willard Road is closed between Lee Road and Stonecroft Boulevard. Drivers in the area are advised to use alternate routes. It is not clear how long the road will be shut down.
No injuries were reported as a result of the leak.
