Construction crew causes gas leak in Northwest DC

One fire crew remained at the scene during the clamping of the leak to monitor.

WASHINGTON — A significant gas leak impacted Northwest D.C. Monday morning.

Authorities with DC Fire and EMS responded to the area of 19th and Vernon Street Northwest around 9:20 a.m. after a report of an outside gas leak. It happened after a construction worker hit the eight inch line.

The fire department says any threatened building were evacuated.

Washington Gas responded to the location and worked to the clamp the leak. As of 10:38 a.m., officials said there was no indication of gas presence in any adjacent buildings.

DC Fire says with the wind Monday , if in the area, you may smell the odor of gas.
