FALLS CHURCH, Va. — Buy a chicken sandwich, win a million dollars. But, not actually, that’s just a cool story one Virginia man gets to tell his friends.
Carlos Gutierrez stopped at a local chicken spot for a quick bite before heading to work. While he waited for his chicken sandwich at Lee’s Sandwiches, Gutierrez decided to try his luck and bought a Powerball ticket.
Gutierrez grabbed his chicken sandwich, coffee, and his ticket and went about his day, without giving it a second thought.
The following day, he went back to Lee’s in Falls Church and saw an unusual amount of commotion. Gutierrez asked what was going on, they told him a winning lottery ticket of one million dollars was purchased at the sandwich shop the day before.
“Maybe it was me,” Gutierrez thought.
He thought right. His ticket for the October 9 drawing matched the first five numbers to win the million-dollar prize. Gutierrez would’ve also matched the Powerball number, but he changed his pick at the very last second.
Gutierrez is a small business owner. When asked what he was going to do with his winnings, he said he was going to use part of it to expand his business.
The odds of winning any Powerball is 1 in 25.
