Suspect found shot in Virginia barricade situation

He has surrendered to police. It's unclear if officers shot him, if the gunshot was self-inflicted or if the wound was from a "previous incident."

MANASSAS, Va. — A suspect was shot after an hours-long barricade situation in Virginia Friday night, according to Manassas City Police.

Police were called to the scene at a single-family home in the 9200 block of Bayberry Avenue in Manassas around 6:50 p.m.

It began as a "shots fired" call. It then escalated into multiple shots fired from inside of the home. When officers arrived and attempted to enter the home, the suspect began shooting at police, according to officials. The officers then returned fire, and the suspect then barricaded himself inside the home.

The suspect eventually surrendered to police. He was shot in the chest, but it's unclear if officers shot him, if the gunshot was self-inflicted or if the wound was from a "previous incident," according to police. He was transported to a nearby hospital and is in "stable" condition, according to police.

Manassas City Police says they have asked for assistance from the Critical Response Team to oversee the investigation due to the possibility that officers shot the suspect.

No officers were injured. Nearby residents were evacuated to a safe location and police had the surrounding area blocked off.

Police say it's an isolated incident, but there will be an ongoing heavy police presence in the area as they investigate. There is no active threat to the surrounding community, according to police.
